Outlook hangs when creating or replying to emails:

Solution is a SCANPST to find errors in the .pst files. 

To scan on Outlook 2010 go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 14 and scroll down till you find the scanpst.exe program and run it.  Run it several times as you may not fix all the errors on the first run through. 

**Be patient, if you have a lot of emails, it may take a while to do the scan, backup, and repair.
